3 Tips for Getting Your Agents to Adopt New Technology

3 Tips for Getting Your Agents to Adopt New Technology

Adopting new technologies isn’t always easy. It can mean changing up the way we do things, adjusting workflows, and taking the time to settle into the new software — and we haven’t even mentioned training and troubleshooting.

We also know that real estate brokerages dedicate large budgets (and time) to sourcing and supplying the latest and greatest technologies for their agents. So, how can brokers make sure that they’re helping their agents to really take advantage of this tech and — most importantly — adopt it into their business?

We’ve got you covered! Here are 3 tips to help your agents and team members get on board.

Build Up the Incentive

If you want your team to be enthusiastic about trying out new technologies, you need to show them the benefits. The best way to approach a new software is by thoroughly explaining its functions, what issue it’s meant to overcome, and the perks associated with working with it. Making a technology tool mandatory doesn’t mean your staff will embrace it; you have to get them excited about it.

Boosting the product’s incentives is all about introducing the tech to your team is a positive and clear way. First impressions are important in any new relationship. If you want to build excitement around the new tool, make sure to boost the ‘curb appeal’.

Training, Training, Training

If you expect your team members to master new technology, you’ll need to put time and effort into training sessions.

To get your team more excited about this, try making it fun! Stay away from boring lectures which oftentimes end up being less effective and difficult to follow.

Instead, turn the session into an event. Learn-and-Lunch sessions are a great idea, and so are morning tech meetings over coffee. When you take a more relaxed approach to training, you’ll also be actively boosting company culture. Team members will be helping each other, talking things out, and strengthening bonds.

You may also want to reach out to your tech vendors. They often have great onboarding and/or customer success teams to help with this!

Create a Safe Space

You never want your team members to feel like failures. Becoming proficient in any new software doesn’t happen overnight. It’s important to make sure that your team feels supported and involved in the process of adopting any new technologies.

Talk to your agents individually and ask them about their specific needs, challenges, and questions. Find out where they struggle and what motivates them. The more insight you have, the better you’ll be able to tailor your approach to your team’s unique needs.

One of the ways you can help create this environment is by having a FAQ section on your brokerage’s Intranet that answers some of your agents’ most common questions. Or, perhaps you have an in-office expert that is available for questions, training sessions, etc. And, don’t forget our recommendation to reach out to your tech vendor — they may have training, customer success teams, and more!

These 3 tips will help your team get moving with new technologies. But, it’s important to remember to have regular check-ins on what value the tech has added to your brokerage. This will show your commitment to the solution and will reinforce its value with your agents.
